Title of the map. “SEPTENTRIONALIUM PARTIUM NOVA TABULA”. Very unusual antique copper engraved map of Greenland and the north Atlantic, by RUSCELLI, from a map of Ptolemy, XVIe century. The map extends from Greenland to Friesland in Denmark, with Iceland, Norway and an part of Sweden. It has been made from a map of 14th century, by Nicolo Zeno established from his expedition in Frisland and Groenland. This is a map from Ruscelli’s edition of Ptolemy’s Geographia (La Geografia di Claudio Tolomeo). Italian text in verso. His most famous work is his translation of Ptolemy’s Geographia, which was published after his death. X 22 cm / 12,2 x 8,6 inches.
